Frequently Asked Questions
What training methods do you use?We use a balanced training approach that begins with reward-based learning to build thorough understanding and engagement. Depending on the dog and the goals of the owner, we may incorporate tools such as slip leads, prong collars, or e-collars to support reliable and consistent behavior. Our priority is always choosing the approach that sets each dog up for long-term success.
What qualifies a dog to train with you?
Dogs must be at least 5 months old, in good health as confirmed by a veterinarian, and up to date on all required immunizations. Beyond those requirements, we welcome dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages. Our training approach is tailored to the individual dog, so whether your dog is young, large, small, or a little older, we’re happy to work with them to build reliable skills and confidence.
Do you offer help with behavioral issues?
Yes. Behavioral modification is an important part of what we do. Whether your dog struggles with reactivity, aggression, or anxiety we work step-by-step to restructure the way your dog acts with calmer, more reliable responses. We will work with dogs with a bite record. We will work with dogs that have failed previous training.
Will my dog behave the same way for me as they do for their trainer?
Yes, but you get out what you’re willing to put in. At the end of every board and train with Recovery Dog Training you will spend 1 to 2 hours with your trainer where you will be taught the system and get hands on practice and receive feedback, tips, and tricks. During training you will also receive daily information about what your dog is learning, why we do what we do, and how you can do it too so you can learn along the way.
Do you offer boarding?
For dogs that have trained with us in the past we offer boarding options that maintain structure and reinforce training. This allows dogs to continue practicing their skills in a consistent environment while still receiving proper care and engagement. This includes daily ‘clean up’ training sessions both at home and out in public.
Can you guarantee that my dog will always listen?
No. Dogs are animals, and just like people they can go through changes, develop new challenges, or experience occasional setbacks. Our goal is to give you the tools and foundation needed to handle those moments with confidence. After completing training, you’ll have lifetime access to Recovery Dog Training, where we’re always happy to provide guidance, community support, or schedule a complimentary lesson if new issues arise. Graduates of our program are also welcome to use our boarding services to refresh what they’ve learned before.
